Step 1
Firstly, you need to cut and de-seed your bell pepper. Then place it on a low grill for 5-10 minutes until the skin of the pepper starts to wrinkle slightly. Once it has cooled down, add it to your blender. (Save a few tiny segments to garnish your hummus at the end if you wish).
Step 2
Loosely chop the red onion, chilli (again de-seed it) and garlic and add these to your food processor along with the chickpeas (and their water from the tin), the lemon juice and the red pepper segments.
Sprinkle in the teaspoons of both paprika and cumin and pulse the mixture together until it reaches your desired consistency. The longer you blend it for, the smoother your resulting hummus will become.
Add to a bowl and garnish with the tiny pieces of red pepper to enjoy.
