BABY: Apple and Cinnamon Purée

When weaning begins, it can be hard to know where to start. There are lots of helpful recipe books out there but sometimes it can be very effective to think from scratch and see what fruit or vegetables you have in your kitchen first that could be easily turned into delicious baby puree.
From carrots to sweet potatoes, apples and bananas, there is always a healthy fruit or vegetable that you can puree for your baby. Here is how I make my apple cinnamon puree to get you started.

Ingredients you will need:
1. 3 medium sized fresh apples
2. 2 tsp cinnamon powder
3. weaning pots
Step 1
Peel your apples and add them to a medium-sized pan with some water. Simmer them on a low heat for around 10-15 minutes until they start turning soft.
The smell is delicious too and will fill your kitchen!
Step 2
Rinse the cooked apples under cold tap water so that you can handle them safely.
Now either allow them to cool slightly and whizz up in a blender or if you don’t have a blender then use a knife to cut them into small chunks. (The smaller the chunks the better as it will make mashing them even easier).
Then add to a large mixing bowl and mash to form a puree.
Step 3
Add the two teaspoons of cinnamon powder and combine it thoroughly with the apple puree mixture. It really is as easy as that.
Now you can add your apple and cinnamon puree to either ice cube trays, little weaning pots or one large Tupperware bowl for storing either in the fridge to consume within one week or for freezing for up to a few months! Remember to defrost it thoroughly in the fridge before use.

If you are freezing any homemade products it can be great practice to get into the habit of writing the date you made it on the front of the box. Use labels on the lids as this will help you to remember when to use it by.
I like to use white sticky labels on my pots which can then be washing off with hot soapy water once the pot is finished, ready for the next batch of delicious baby food.
